Retired Judge Giribala Singh Denied Bail in Twisha Sharma Dowry Death Case

A Bhopal special CBI court on 25 July 2026 rejected the regular bail application of retired district judge Giribala Singh, who has been arrested in connection with the alleged dowry‑related death of her daughter‑in‑law, model‑turned‑actor Twisha Sharma. The court, presided over by Judge Ram Pratap Mishra, cited serious allegations, including evidence such as WhatsApp chats and call records, and warned that releasing Singh could jeopardise the ongoing investigation.

Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on 12 May 2026, five months after marrying lawyer Samarth Singh. Her family alleges persistent domestic violence and dowry harassment by her husband and in‑laws, leading to a FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Dowry Prohibition Act. The Madhya Pradesh High Court transferred the probe to the CBI after questioning the initial police inquiry. Both Giribala Singh and her son Samarth Singh remain in judicial custody, and several judges have recused themselves from hearing the bail plea due to prior associations with the accused.
