Retired miner in Zonguldak avoids amputation through advanced treatment
Ahmet Üstünkul, a 72-year-old retired miner from the Karadeniz Ereğli district of Zonguldak, has successfully regained his ability to walk following a three-month medical treatment. Üstünkul had been suffering from a diabetic wound that had progressed to the bone, and previous medical facilities had recommended the amputation of his leg.
Under the care of Dr. Volkan Tutuş, the treatment involved cleaning dead tissue from the wound area and applying vacuum therapy. Additionally, a biological material known as a biodegradable dermal matrix, which functions as artificial skin, was utilized. After three months, the wound closed completely, allowing Üstünkul to resume daily activities and walk without assistance.
