Retired Nigerian security officer apologizes for leaking internal matters

Nwaogu Ihechimere Ezeakolam, a retired officer of the Department of State Services (DSS), has issued a formal apology to Director-General Oluwatosin Ajayi for leaking internal agency matters to an online media platform. In a letter dated September 22, 2026, Ezeakolam described his actions as a “serious error in judgment” and expressed regret for making sensitive information public.

Ezeakolam stated that he did not intend to harm Ajayi personally, embarrass the agency leadership, or expose the Director-General to legal difficulties. He reaffirmed his loyalty to the Federal Government and requested that the matter be resolved internally.

Despite the apology, Ezeakolam’s legal counsel, Edmund C. Ben of Lawminds Associates, has demanded the retraction of a June 29, 2026, publication. The lawyer alleged that the report contained inaccuracies and unsubstantiated claims that denigrated the office of the DSS Director-General.
