Retired Northern Cyprus Chief Prosecutor Aşkan İlgen Passes Away
Aşkan İlgen, the former chief prosecutor of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, died on 2 August 2026. Born in 1953 in Limassol, he studied at Lefkoşa English College and graduated from Ankara University’s Faculty of Law. He entered the prosecutorial service in 1989, rose to senior prosecutor in 1995, became deputy chief prosecutor in 2007 and was appointed chief prosecutor in February 2008, a post he held until his retirement at the statutory age in 2018.
His family announced that the funeral will be held on 3 August 2026 at Karaoglanoglu Mosque, followed by burial at Karaoglanoglu Cemetery. İlgen was widely respected for his work on criminal law reforms and strengthening the judiciary’s infrastructure.
