Retired Turkish Official Şehmus Tik Harvests First Aronia Crop in Adana
Şehmus Tik, a former purchase chief of Seyhan Municipality who retired in 2021, used his retirement lump‑sum to buy an 18‑dunam neglected plot in the Karaisalı district of Adana. Together with his wife he cleared the land, installed solar panels and a drip‑irrigation system, and planted aronia, a fruit marketed as a "super‑fruit" for its health benefits.
After four years of work Tik expects the first harvest to yield between 750 kg and 1 ton of fruit. He said, "İlk ürünümüz olduğu için bayağı mutluyuz, şevkliyiz," and plans to distribute the produce to many provinces across Turkey.
The venture turns a personal retirement dream into a small‑scale agricultural business, aiming to supply fresh aronia nationwide.
