Hürriyet Munanoğlu appears in ISG’s ‘Women Who Defy Aviation’ documentary

The Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen (ISG) International Airport released the fifth episode of its digital documentary series “Women Who Defy Aviation.” The episode features retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Hürriyet Munanoğlu, Turkey’s first female pilot to break the sound barrier. Munanoğlu recounts her 27‑year career, including supersonic flights, her role as one of the first women accepted to the Air War School, and the responsibilities of serving as a woman in military aviation.

The series, launched as part of ISG’s 25th‑anniversary celebrations, highlights pioneering women across different aviation fields. Munanoğlu emphasizes discipline, perseverance and the importance of role models, noting how her experiences aim to inspire a new generation of female pilots in Turkey.
