Retired UFRJ professor shot during robbery in Leblon

An 81-year-old retired professor from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Tânia Andrade Lima, was shot during an attempted robbery in the Leblon neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro.

The incident occurred on a Thursday afternoon at the corner of Rua João de Barros and Rua General Venâncio Flores. Security footage captured the moment a thief attempted to snatch the victim's bag; after she fell to the ground, the assailant shot her in the hand before fleeing on a motorcycle with an accomplice.

The victim was transported to the Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital. The UFRJ issued an official statement expressing solidarity with the professor, noting her decades of service to the institution and reflecting on the increasing violence in the city.

Police reported that the suspects fled toward the Rebouças Tunnel, where they reportedly fell from their motorcycle. They allegedly stole another motorcycle to continue their escape. Authorities are currently analyzing vehicle circulation records and conducting forensic examinations on the abandoned motorcycle to identify the suspects.
