Retirees in Turkey transform landscapes through long-term agriculture

Retirees in Turkey are transforming their lives through long-term agricultural projects. In Edirne, 70-year-old Kenan Kırca has spent 15 years cultivating a pear orchard. His garden contains 200 trees, including Deveci and Haziran Güzeli varieties. Despite a hot season, Kırca reports a 10 percent increase in yield and utilizes organic farming support and local agricultural guidance to manage pests and irrigation.

In Yozgat, 76-year-old retired teacher Bekir Karakoç and his wife have spent 15 years converting 14 acres of steppe into a green oasis. The project, intended as a legacy for their children and grandchildren, features 300 fruit trees and approximately 4 acres of vineyards growing Ahmet Ağa grapes. Rather than pursuing commercial profit, the couple uses the land primarily for personal consumption and to provide a habitat for local wildlife.
