Retirement policy changes and personal finance insights

New updates regarding retirement and personal finance management highlight different economic considerations for workers in the region.

In Croatia, significant changes have been introduced for citizens planning their retirement. The previous 27 percent cap on pension bonuses for delaying retirement has been abolished, meaning there is no longer a maximum limit on the increase gained by working longer. Additionally, the requirement of at least 35 years of pension service for these bonuses has been removed. From January 2026, retirees aged 65 or older will have the option to work full-time while simultaneously receiving 50 percent of their pension.

Separately, financial analysis suggests a method for evaluating the true value of time. By dividing monthly earnings by the total hours dedicated to work—including commuting and preparation—individuals can better understand the real cost of purchases. For example, a salary of 120,000 dinars distributed over total work-related hours (including commute) results in a lower hourly value than a simple division of salary by formal office hours.
