Retrieval-Augmented Generation improves AI accuracy and SEO
Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) is emerging as a critical mechanism for improving the accuracy of Large Language Models (LLMs) by allowing them to access specific, external data sources before generating responses.
In the context of ecommerce, RAG shifts the focus of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Rather than just ranking for keywords, brands must ensure their product specifications, sizing, and policies are structured so AI-driven search engines and conversational interfaces can retrieve and interpret the information correctly. This helps prevent AI from hallucinating or providing incorrect details to shoppers.
Technically, RAG functions in phases: an application searches its own documents for text relevant to a query and provides that context to the model. This allows the AI to answer questions based on factual, private, or recent data—such as a specific company wiki or a personal recipe—rather than relying solely on its pre-trained knowledge, which may be outdated or incomplete.
