Retro gaming events and Commodore's new mobile hardware
The retro gaming and technology scene is seeing renewed interest through both community events and brand resurrections. In Eppelheim, Germany, the RetroGamesCon is scheduled for September 19, 2026. The event features a wide array of hardware from the 1980s through the 2010s, including consoles from Sega, Sony, and Nintendo, as well as classic computers like the Commodore 64 and Amiga 500. The convention includes gaming zones, arcade machines, and exhibitions of vintage toys and collectibles.
In a separate development showcased at Gamescom, the resurrected Commodore brand has introduced the Callback 8020, a modern flip phone designed with a retro aesthetic. While the device is still in a prototype stage with unfinished software, it aims to blend nostalgic design with contemporary functionality, following the brand's recent release of reimagined Commodore 64 computers.
