Retro Jazz celebrates 15 years with Dominican jazz gala

The musical group Retro Jazz is celebrating its 15th anniversary with a special concert titled ‘Retro Jazz 15 años: gala del cancionero dominicano’. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, at 8:30 p.m. in the Sala Carlos Piantini at the Teatro Nacional Eduardo Brito.

Directed by maestro Junior Basurto, the performance will feature a 30-piece orchestra and various guest artists. The group, led by director and bassist Pengbian Sang, focuses on reinterpreting traditional Dominican songs through the lens of jazz. The anniversary celebration aims to showcase new orchestral arrangements that offer fresh perspectives on classic Dominican melodies.

Other cultural activities in Santo Domingo for the weekend include an improvisation theater match at Casa de Teatro and the children's show ‘Luli Pampín: Bienvenidos, Juntos Otra Vez’ at the Teatro Nacional Eduardo Brito on Sunday, October 11.
