Retrokit converts vintage Vespas into electric scooters
As Italian cities increasingly tighten environmental regulations within Limited Traffic Zones (ZTL), older two-stroke Vespa scooters are facing bans due to high emission levels. This has led to many classic models being relegated to garages.
To address this, the Rimini-based startup Retrokit has developed a solution to convert vintage Vespas into electric scooters. The process involves removing the original engine while preserving the iconic original bodywork and components. The company offers conversion kits that allow users with basic technical skills to perform the installation themselves, similar to assembling furniture, or they can opt for professional installation through partners in Italy and Germany. The startup has seen rapid growth over the last two years and now distributes its electric motors across Europe.
