RetrOpatija festival draws thousands to Opatija for retro celebration

The three‑day RetrOpatija festival transformed the Adriatic town of Opatija, Croatia, into a retro‑themed showcase that attracted thousands of visitors. Across more than twenty venues, the event featured vintage music from the 1940s to the 1970s, dance performances, karaoke, a skate program, and a one‑day vintage tennis classic played with wooden rackets and white dress code.

A central attraction was the Dress Up Corner at the Gervais Center, where over 20 exhibitors offered vintage clothing, second‑hand garments, antiques and accessories, complemented by Retro Talks and a hidden speakeasy bar inspired by American Prohibition. The main thoroughfare hosted an open‑air museum of classic cars and motorcycles, ranging from American classics to local Zastava 750s, Vespas and Tomos, while a retro playground provided vintage street games for children.

The festival highlighted local craftspeople, food vendors and cultural displays, turning Opatija’s streets, squares and promenade into a living tableau of mid‑century fashion, music and motor heritage.
