Return to Castle Wolfenstein becomes uncut and available in Germany

The 2001 shooter Return to Castle Wolfenstein was removed from Germany’s list of youth‑endangering media on 24 February 2026, ending a 24‑year restriction. After the index removal, the publisher secured a USK age rating, allowing the game to be listed on German digital stores. Since 1 August, Steam sells the uncut version for €1.99 (down from €4.99) until 13 August, with GOG and the Microsoft Store also offering the title.

The delay between the legal delisting and the store launch was due to the need for a USK certification, which is required for visibility on German platforms even after the index ban is lifted. The decision to request early removal, rather than waiting for the automatic expiry in 2027, reflects a cost‑benefit assessment by the rights holder.
