Reus implements solar energy sharing between hospital and school
A new collective self-consumption system has been launched in Reus to share solar energy between the Josep Tapiró Institute and the Sant Joan University Hospital. Managed by L'Energètica, the public renewable energy company of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the initiative utilizes 204 photovoltaic panels covering 526.32 square meters.
The installation has an installed capacity of 116.63 kWp and is expected to generate approximately 144,301 kWh of renewable electricity annually. To account for differing energy demands, the hospital will receive 94.8% of the generated power, while the institute will receive the remaining 5.2%.
The project operates under a collective self-consumption model that allows for the sale of surplus electricity back into the power grid when it is not consumed by the two public facilities.
