Revelstoke non-profit identifies social connection needs for seniors
The Community Connections (Revelstoke) Society, in partnership with resident Beth Granstrom, has released a report detailing ways to improve age-friendliness and reduce social isolation among seniors in Revelstoke.
Through a three-month project involving interviews and focus groups with local residents aged 65 and older, researchers identified that accessible community events and improved communication are vital for maintaining engagement. The study highlighted that social isolation is a particular concern during winter months when snow can impede mobility for those using wheelchairs or scooters.
Findings suggest that seniors benefit from diverse programming, including walking clubs, coffee socials, lunch and learn sessions, and community dinners. The initiative aims to refine local programming to better support healthy aging within the community.
