Revelstoke water discoloration likely caused by firefighter training

The City of Revelstoke has indicated that discoloured water reported by Columbia Park residents on October 3 was likely caused by Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services conducting training at the Stoke Hotel. During the training, firefighters opened and closed a local fire hydrant, which may have led to brown and yellow fluid flowing from taps in the north-end neighbourhood.

Public works director Steve Black stated that city crews spent approximately four hours flushing the water mains to clear the discoloured water from the pipes. While residents reported receiving no prior notice regarding the issue, Councillor Matt Cherry has committed to working with city staff to ensure the community is advised in advance of any future impacts on water quality caused by hydrant flushing.
