Revista de Cine Cubano marks decades of influence on film criticism
The Revista de Cine Cubano, established in June 1960 by Alfredo Guevara, remains a significant international reference for film criticism and art. Created shortly after the founding of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), the publication provided a necessary platform for debate and dissemination during a period when the country faced isolation.
Film director Arturo Sotto and other cultural figures note that the magazine served as a critical apparatus to support the burgeoning cultural movement, helping to establish a unique Caribbean cinematic language. The publication featured contributions from major figures in Cuban cinematography and art, aiming to educate viewers and provide a distinct perspective on cinema as an art form.
