Revolución Ciudadana to discipline assembly members over adoption law vote

The Revolución Ciudadana political movement is initiating disciplinary proceedings against 33 to 37 of its assembly members in Ecuador. The investigation follows a July 28, 2026, vote in the National Assembly where these legislators voted in favor of reforms to the adoption law, despite a party directive to abstain.

The approved legislation, which went into effect on August 14, aims to streamline adoption processes and specifies that adoptions are reserved for legally constituted couples of different sexes or heterosexual individuals without a partner.

Under the movement’s organic regulations, the disciplinary council will evaluate the actions to determine sanctions. Potential consequences for violating party directives range from written warnings to the suspension of member rights for up to six months. Patricia Núñez, the movement's caucus coordinator, stated that the matter should be resolved internally within the organization.
