Revolut expands global footprint with Argentine acquisition and Swiss license application

Fintech company Revolut is aggressively expanding its global footprint, highlighted by the Central Bank of Argentina’s approval for its acquisition of Banco Cetelem Argentina from BNP Paribas. This regulatory milestone facilitates Revolut’s planned entry into the Argentine market, where the company already has over 150,000 people on its waitlist. Upon completion, the entity will be renamed Revolut Bank Argentina S.A.U. and will focus on meeting regulatory requirements before a full market launch.

In Europe, Revolut has applied for a banking license with the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA), pledging an investment of over 150 million Swiss francs over five years. The company also recently secured a banking license in Colombia, marking a significant step in its Latin American growth strategy.

In the United States, the company is working toward obtaining a national banking license, with operational banking activities in the U.S. targeted for the first half of 2027. These moves coincide with ongoing preparations for a potential initial public offering (IPO).
