Revolut scams cost Jersey residents £180,000 in four weeks

Fraudsters impersonating the digital banking app Revolut have stolen approximately £180,000 from residents in Jersey over a four-week period. Jersey police reported that 75% of all scam crime reports received during that timeframe involved Revolut accounts.

The scammers typically use telephone calls, posing as bank fraud departments or Revolut customer support teams. They claim accounts are at risk or that suspicious transactions have occurred to pressure victims into revealing security details or transferring funds.

While Guernsey has not yet experienced a similar surge in reported losses, authorities in both islands are warning residents to remain vigilant. The Office of the Data Protection Authority (ODPA) noted an uptick in telephone scams across the Channel Islands, and Guernsey’s Data Protection Commissioner, Brent Homan, advised citizens to ‘Pause. Check. Protect.’ to avoid falling victim to these high-pressure tactics.
