Revolut secures full banking licence in France

Revolut has secured a full banking licence in France following a joint assessment by the French prudential regulator, ACPR, and the European Central Bank (ECB). This milestone allows the fintech company to operate through its new French entity, Revolut Bank S.A., marking a shift toward a dual-hub model in Europe alongside its existing Lithuanian entity, Revolut Bank UAB.

Under this new structure, Revolut will progressively migrate customers from its Lithuanian entity to the French entity, starting with the French market before expanding to Germany, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. This expansion is designed to support the company's growth in Western Europe, a region that currently accounts for approximately 30 million of its 75 million global customers.

To support this expansion, Revolut has committed to investing over €1 billion in Western Europe and plans to hire more than 600 employees across the region. The company also confirmed it will open a new Western European headquarters in Paris in 2027. The French licence enables the offering of localized products, such as mortgages and regulated savings accounts, which were previously unavailable through its Lithuanian license.
