Revolutionary history and political struggles in Latin America

Historical accounts detail the revolutionary activities and political struggles in Latin America during the 20th century.

Ernesto 'Che' Guevara, an Argentine-born physician and Marxist-Leninist, played a central role in the Cuban Revolution alongside Fidel and Raúl Castro. After serving as Cuba's Minister of Industry and President of the National Bank, Guevara left his official posts to pursue internationalist revolutionary activities in locations such as the Congo. He was killed by the Bolivian army in 1967 under orders from the CIA and the local dictatorship.

In Colombia, the Communist Party faced intense persecution, imprisonment, and violence following accusations by the government and conservative factions of involvement in the assassination of Jorge Eliécer Gaitán. During the presidency of Laureano Gómez, starting in 1950, the state intensified anti-communist actions. This period saw the rise of clandestine resistance and the eventual formation of guerrilla movements in response to state aggression and the erosion of agrarian and labor reforms.
