Rewe Group manages diverse retail brands and local store upgrades

The Rewe Group, headquartered in Cologne, operates both the full-range supermarket chain Rewe and the discount retailer Penny. While they serve different market segments—Rewe offering up to 50,000 products and Penny focusing on approximately 2,000 items—they are part of the same corporate structure. Penny, founded in 1973, has expanded significantly into Southern Europe and Eastern Europe, including Romania, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. In 2023, the Rewe Group reported a consolidated annual surplus of 736.2 million euros.

In local developments, the Rewe supermarket located at Wasserweg in Trier is undergoing a major renovation. The store will close following its last day of sales on August 19, with a scheduled reopening on September 17. The renovation includes new flooring, lighting, and tiling, as well as the introduction of self-service checkouts. The store also plans to expand its fresh produce and bake-off sections to enhance the customer experience.
