Rewe Group's ‘ja!’ brand expands to 1,400 products

The Rewe Group's private label, ‘ja!’, has grown from a small selection of 28 basic products launched in 1982 to a massive assortment of over 1,400 items. The brand was originally developed as a strategic response to the rising market pressure from discount retailers, aiming to provide low-cost daily essentials directly within supermarkets to maintain price competitiveness.

The brand is characterized by its intentionally minimalist design, featuring white packaging and a simple blue logo to distinguish it from premium branded goods. This simplicity serves both a functional and economic purpose, allowing the retailer greater control over assortment, positioning, and pricing. Since 2021, Rewe has conducted over 100,000 customer tests on ‘ja!’ products, which reportedly earned an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars.
