REWE private label price comparison shows significant savings
A price comparison conducted at a REWE supermarket in Berlin reveals substantial cost differences between the retailer's budget private label, ‘ja!’, and established brand-name products.
By comparing ten pairs of everyday grocery items—including oats, spaghetti, rice, tomato puree, butter, eggs, and sunflower oil—the test highlights how much consumers can save by opting for store brands. While brands such as Barilla, Ben’s Original, Bonduelle, and Landliebe were used as benchmarks, the most significant price gaps were observed in staples like spaghetti, rice, and passed tomatoes.
To ensure value, consumers are advised to look beyond the sticker price by checking ingredient lists, nutritional values, and the unit price (price per kilogram or liter) to compare different package sizes fairly.
