Rewe recalls frozen berry mix over Hepatitis A contamination

The Rewe Group has launched a nationwide recall of its private‑label frozen berry blend “ja! Beerenmischung, tiefgefroren”. The recall targets the 750‑gram package with batch number L‑26085 and a best‑before date of 15 Mar 2028, produced by Eurogroup España Frutas y Verduras S.A.U. in Valencia, Spain. Laboratory tests detected Hepatitis A virus in the product.

The affected batches were sold in German states including Baden‑Württemberg, Berlin, Bremen, Hessen, Nordrhein‑Westfalen, Rheinland‑Pfalz and Saarland, and the mix was also available in Luxembourg. Consumers are urged not to eat the berries and to return any unopened packages to any Rewe, Nahkauf or Hit store for a full refund, even without a receipt.

Health authorities note that Hepatitis A can cause flu‑like symptoms, abdominal pain and, in later stages, jaundice. The incubation period ranges from 14 to 50 days. Vaccination remains effective if administered up to 14 days after exposure. The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment recommends heating frozen berries before consumption.
