Rewe simplifies mobile payments via app update
Rewe has updated its mobile payment service, Rewe Pay, to streamline the user experience within its app. Previously, customers were required to identify themselves in-store using a Girocard. Under the new system, users can link their checking accounts directly through the Rewe app and online banking, eliminating the need to visit a checkout counter for initial activation.
Payments are processed via SEPA direct debit after the bank connection is confirmed within the app. The update also includes several key features:
• A new Rewe bonus program that replaces the previous points system, allowing users to activate coupons and a ‘Bonus-Booster’ for discounts. • Enhanced security through two-factor authentication (2FA) using email or authenticator apps. • Improved market selection for viewing weekly brochures and specific offers.
To use Rewe Pay, customers must enable the function and have a device lock enabled, such as Face ID, a fingerprint, or a PIN. The service allows users to scan an app code at the checkout or self-checkout to link payments with loyalty points and digital receipts.
