REWE Group expands logistics automation and e-commerce capabilities

The REWE Group is implementing several technological and logistical upgrades across its European operations. REWE Digital has adopted Camunda’s software platform to orchestrate business processes in logistics and inventory management, ensuring compliance and scalability within its microservices architecture.

In its fresh food division, REWE is utilizing Cimcorp’s robotic handling and success services at its Oranienburg fulfillment center to maintain supply chain reliability for nearly 1,000 retail locations. Additionally, REWE Austria is expanding its electric truck fleet to nine vehicles to support urban logistics for brands like Billa and Penny, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions.

On the consumer side, REWE is testing quick-commerce models in Germany, specifically in Munich and Jena, by partnering with Wolt and Lieferando to deliver groceries directly from local supermarkets. In Austria, the group has transitioned to using Foodora for deliveries and has converted a supermarket in Vienna into a dedicated darkstore.
