Rex Hawthorne surfs Okanagan Lake using Halo EFoils hydrofoil board

Rex Hawthorne, a paraplegic man, recently used a hydrofoil board to surf the waves of Okanagan Lake in Kelowna. The activity was part of a demonstration for the Halo Phantom, a new design from the Kelowna-based company Halo EFoils.

These powered surfboards utilize an underwater mast, wings, and a propeller to allow riders to fly above the water surface. Hawthorne reported that the board felt stable and was easy to mount once he found his balance.

Carey Missler, the founder and CEO of Halo EFoils, noted the importance of sharing such experiences. In addition to manufacturing the boards, the company offers rider education and training programs in Kelowna.
