Rexhep Selimi death threat prompts call for investigation

Shqipe Mehmeti-Selimi, a deputy for the Vetëvendosje Movement, has called on the State Prosecutor to investigate a social media comment calling for the execution of her husband, Rexhep Selimi.

Selimi, a former member of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), was sentenced to 13 years by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague. The threat was reportedly posted in the comments section of a Facebook post by Gazeta Sinjali regarding Selimi’s artistic work.

The comment was made under the profile name ‘Albesian Kelmendi’, though the actual identity of the individual behind the account has not been independently verified. Mehmeti-Selimi emphasized that political differences or personal convictions do not justify calls for violence and stated that freedom of expression should not serve as a cover for inciting violence.
