Reykjanesbær to oversee Fjölbrautaskóli Suðurnesja expansion

Reykjanesbær has assumed oversight for the long-awaited expansion of the Fjölbrautaskóli Suðurnesja vocational training facilities. A memorandum of understanding was signed during the school’s 50th anniversary celebrations by Minister of Education and Children Inga Sæland and Reykjanesbær Mayor Vilhjálmur Árnason.

The project involves an 1,800-square-meter expansion of the vocational training building, with construction expected to begin early next year. This follows a period of significant local unrest, including student protests and the resignation of the school principal, Kristján Ásmundsson, due to delays in state funding and project timelines.

The expansion is viewed as a strategic investment in the youth and the future economy of the Suðurnes region, facilitated through cooperation between the state, local municipalities, and the school.
