Reykjavík police respond to dozens of incidents including drug offenses and reckless driving
Police in the Reykjavík metropolitan area responded to 59 reported incidents between yesterday evening and early this morning. Notable incidents included a highly intoxicated man on a bus who attempted to hug one passenger and pour beer over another. Upon his arrest, police discovered small bags containing suspected narcotics.
Traffic enforcement resulted in several arrests and citations. One driver engaged in a pursuit after failing to stop for police, eventually stopping at the Hverfisgata station; a drug test returned a positive result. Another driver was clocked traveling at 157 km/h in an 80 km/h zone, resulting in an immediate loss of driving privileges and significant fines. Additionally, a foreign driver was stopped who was already unlicensed in his home country and tested positive for drugs.
Other reported activities included a burglary in Kópavogur where suspects fled before police arrival, and a report of reckless driving involving a vehicle traveling on the wrong side of the road and onto sidewalks.
