Reykjavík projects nominated for Icelandic Education Awards
Three projects based in Reykjavík have been nominated for the 2026 Icelandic Education Awards, announced on International Teachers' Day. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place at Bessastaðir on November 10.
In the category of outstanding teaching, Sandra Ómarsdóttir, a teacher at Seljaskóli, has been nominated for her contributions to performing arts education and creative learning in primary schools.
In the development projects category, two initiatives were recognized. Söngvavor, a collaboration involving 62 Reykjavík kindergartens and five music schools, focuses on musical education and language through the Children's Cultural Festival. The Stilla project, involving the Rauðhóll kindergarten, promotes slow-paced preschool activities to allow children more time for exploration and creativity.
