Reza Pahlavi to accept Freedom Prize for Iranian people in Germany

Reza Pahlavi, the son of the Shah of Iran, will travel to Germany in early November to accept the Freedom Prize on behalf of the Iranian people. The award is presented by the Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung für die Freiheit (FNF), an organization affiliated with the FDP.

Steffen Saebisch, head of the FNF board, stated that the award is intended to honor the courage and will of the Iranian people resisting the current regime, rather than focusing on a single individual. Pahlavi, a prominent member of the Iranian opposition living in exile in the United States, has been asked to accept the prize in a fiduciary capacity until it can be handed to freely elected representatives of Iran.

The ceremony is scheduled for November 7 at the Paulskirche in Frankfurt. Bijan Djir-Sarai, the former General Secretary of the FDP, will deliver the laudatio for the Iranian people.
