Rezina farmer struggles to sell surplus tomato harvest

Andrei Ionașcu, a farmer from Ignăței in the Rezina district with 14 years of experience, is struggling to sell a bumper crop of tomatoes. Despite a highly productive harvest using a Moldovan tomato variety, Ionașcu has been unable to find buyers in major markets like Chișinău or local markets in Rezina.

Market administrators in Rezina, including Alexandru Vișnevski, have cited space constraints and accessibility issues for large vehicles as reasons for not allowing direct sales at the market entrance. Consequently, Ionașcu has resorted to selling his produce directly from the field and near local shops to recover some of his investment. Following social media attention, some consumers have begun visiting the farm to pick their own tomatoes.
