RG Kar case: BJP MLA demands accountability as CBI probe continues

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continues its probe into the 2024 rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Ratna Debnath, a BJP MLA from Panihati and mother of the victim, has expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of the investigation, stating that certain aspects of the justice process are not moving forward. She has demanded that all individuals found involved, including medical professionals and government officials, be held accountable.

Recent developments include the arrest of former Panihati municipality chairman Somnath Dey in Bengaluru. Dey is linked to a fresh FIR concerning allegations of a hurried cremation of the victim's body, following claims that pressure was exerted on the family to proceed with the cremation against their wishes.

Debnath also emphasized that the investigation should encompass high-ranking officials, including Health Secretary Narayan Swarup Nigam, to ensure full accountability within the health sector and government administration.
