RG Kar Medical College faces negligence allegations after patient death
The family of Pritam Roy has accused the administration of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata of medical negligence following his death. Roy, a resident of Rajchangpur in Howrah district, was admitted to the hospital's trauma care center on a Saturday evening after sustaining serious injuries in a road accident, including broken bones in both legs and his lower spine.
Hospital sources reported that the patient suffered from hemorrhagic shock due to heavy blood loss, leading to his death at approximately 10:30 PM that night. Family member Shouvik Sarkar has directly blamed the hospital administration for the fatality and appealed to West Bengal officials for an investigation into healthcare delivery in state hospitals.
Hospital Superintendent Saptarshi Chatterjee confirmed that the complaint is currently under investigation. This incident follows previous controversies at the facility, including a death in a hospital lift in March and a high-profile rape and murder case involving a female doctor in August 2024.
