Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis invests 2.8 million euros in CBRN defense

The Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis has completed a four-year procurement project to modernize its hazardous materials and CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) defense capabilities. The district invested approximately 2.8 million euros to acquire three specialized equipment vehicles (GW-G) from the vehicle manufacturer ITURRI.

The new vehicles will be stationed in Bad Schwalbach, Eltville am Rhein, and Idstein to serve the entire district. This investment replaces equipment that was roughly 25 years old and no longer met modern technical or tactical requirements. Under a new operational concept, the district now assumes responsibility for providing uniform, high-tech specialized equipment to three CBRN units.

Each vehicle features modular equipment loaded on trolleys, including nine chemical protective suits, measurement and detection technology, a weather station, and a pneumatic light mast. Additional resources include a decontamination tent, a heated stay tent, and tablets for on-site research into hazardous substances. This upgrade is intended to allow emergency responders to identify, assess, and mitigate risks from chemicals or radioactive materials more effectively.
