Rheinland-Pfalz apprentices receive limited vocational training assistance

In the German state of Rheinland-Pfalz, approximately 4.9 percent of apprentices received vocational training assistance (Berufsausbildungsbeihilfe) last year. According to data from the Ministry of Labor in Mainz, 2,811 trainees out of roughly 57,700 received this support.

The subsidy is designed to assist apprentices whose training compensation is insufficient to cover necessary living costs, which are estimated at 822 euros. This is notably higher than the current minimum training compensation of 724 euros for the first year of apprenticeship.

Eligibility for the assistance generally applies to those undergoing their first apprenticeship who do not live with their parents. Under certain conditions, those on a second vocational path may also qualify. For minors, a claim exists if the commute to work exceeds two hours. The amount of assistance is also dependent on parental income.
