Rheinland-Pfalz awards State Honor Award to culinary craftsmen

Rheinland-Pfalz Economic Minister Michael Ebling presented the 2026 State Honor Award (Landesehrenpreis) in the culinary crafts sector during the ‘Porta Locals’ food festival in Trier. The award, presented for the fourth time, recognizes outstanding bakers, butchers, confectioners, ice cream manufacturers, and brewers across the state.

Award recipients are selected based on criteria including the use of regional ingredients, traditional manufacturing methods, fair wages, apprentice training, environmentally friendly packaging, and the use of renewable energy. The initiative aims to highlight the high quality of regional craftsmanship and promote the diverse career opportunities available within the trade, such as obtaining a master title or founding an independent business.

In addition to the formal ceremony, the event featured a bread buffet where winners showcased their products. The ceremony received support from Katarina Barley, Ambassador of German Bread 2026 and Vice President of the European Parliament.
