Rheinland-Pfalz police introduce new fitness test for trainees
The Rhineland-Palatinate police force has implemented a new fitness course for police trainees at the Campus Hahn of the Police University in Lautzenhausen. Developed over two years, the test is designed to ensure that future officers remain capable of action under physical stress.
The course includes several practical exercises such as climbing through windows, navigating stairs, rescuing individuals, and pulling or pushing vehicles. Additionally, the test incorporates a cognitive component where trainees must memorize and recall specific details, such as a car's make, license plate, and color, immediately following physical exertion to test mental clarity under pressure.
Trainees must pass this course by the second attempt to avoid termination of their studies. Alongside the introduction of the test, authorities announced a long-term strategy to use corporate influencers to recruit young people. Laila Ziegler, a police trainee and TikTok influencer, participated in the demonstration of the new course alongside State Secretary Dirk Herber.
