Rheinland-Pfalz reports sharp rise in anti-queer hate crimes

Hate crimes targeting sexual and gender diversity have increased significantly in Rheinland-Pfalz. According to an analysis by the State Criminal Police Office (LKA), 118 offenses were recorded in 2025, nearly twelve times the ten cases reported in 2021.

In the first half of 2026, police had already recorded 33 crimes categorized under hate crime sub-themes of “sexual orientation” and “gender diversity.” The reported offenses include physical assault, property damage, and threats. The LKA identified 36 victims during the evaluation period, consisting of 32 men, two women, and two individuals with a diverse gender identity.

The Ministry of the Interior noted a near-continuous rise in politically motivated crime across the state. This trend has heightened fears within the community, particularly following a recent attack during the Berlin Christopher Street Day (CSD) that resulted in one death and at least 31 injuries.
