Rheinland-Pfalz reports successful honey harvest

Beekeepers in Rheinland-Pfalz report a successful honey harvest, with an average yield of 42.7 kilograms per colony. This result is consistent with the previous year's production, according to data from the Fachzentrum Bienen und Imkerei in Mayen.

The favorable harvest is attributed to mild spring weather, characterized by a lack of frost and sufficient rainfall to ensure nectar availability for plants. While summer heat and drought occurred, they had minimal impact on the harvest as the summer yield was largely completed by late June in many regions.

Despite the successful harvest, concerns remain regarding the long-term effects of summer heat on bee health. Drought may have limited pollen availability, potentially affecting the development of winter bees. Beekeepers are currently preparing their colonies for winter, which includes essential treatments against the Varroa mite.
