Rheinmetall awarded contract for Danish Navy decoy systems
The Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) has awarded Rheinmetall a contract to supply five Multi-Ammunition Softkill System (MASS) decoy launchers. These systems will be used to retrofit two Absalon-class anti-submarine warfare frigates and three Iver Huitfeldt-class air defense frigates in the Royal Danish Navy.
The MASS system is designed to protect naval vessels against various threats, including anti-ship missiles and laser-guided weapons, by providing multispectral deception across radar, ultraviolet, electro-optical, laser, and infrared wavelengths. The contract also includes the provision of Omnitrap-ER decoys, training services, and a framework agreement for ammunition supply and maintenance for up to 21 years.
Deliveries are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2027. With this procurement, Denmark becomes the 18th nation to utilize the technology, making the MASS system a standard across all Scandinavian naval forces.
