Rheinmetall Canada to supply spare parts for U.S. Navy aircraft starters

Rheinmetall Canada has secured a multi-million euro contract from the U.S. Department of Defense to supply spare parts for the U.S. Navy’s MSU-200-NAV mobile aircraft start units. The contract, facilitated through the Canadian Commercial Corporation, is valued in the single-digit millions of euros.

The delivery schedule is set to run from late 2026 through the end of 2028. Rheinmetall will provide components for two critical systems: the starter, which initiates turbine operation, and the Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) system, which manages turbine power output, exhaust control, and safety.

These mobile start units are used to reliably start aircraft engines both on land and aboard ships. The technology is noted for its reliability, ease of maintenance, and ability to operate under extreme climatic conditions. The development and maintenance of these systems are conducted at Rheinmetall’s facility in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Canada.
