Rheinmetall opens UK autonomy centre using Canadian PATH technology

Rheinmetall has established an Advanced Land Autonomy Centre of Excellence (ALACOE) in the United Kingdom. The new facility is designed to integrate, test, and deploy autonomous ground systems for the British market and surrounding regions.

The centre will utilize PATH, an AI-enabled autonomy technology developed by Rheinmetall Canada. The platform-agnostic system provides perception, navigation, and decision-making capabilities for vehicles operating in complex, contested, or GPS-degraded environments. It has been demonstrated on over 40 wheeled and tracked vehicles, supporting tasks such as leader-follower convoy operations and dynamic obstacle avoidance.

The initiative aims to strengthen industrial cooperation between the UK and Canada while increasing British industrial participation and creating local engineering and technology jobs. This UK hub forms part of a global network of autonomy centres that includes locations in Europe, the United States, and Australia.
