Rheinmetall secures €100 million Bundeswehr digitalisation contract
German defence specialist Rheinmetall has been awarded a contract worth about €100 million by the Bundeswehr to supply hardware and integration services for the digitalisation of its land‑based vehicle fleet. The deal is part of the "Digitalisierung Landbasierte Operationen" (D‑LBO) programme and falls within a broader framework agreement valued at roughly €1.2 billion over ten years, alongside a separate €2 billion vehicle‑integration contract with KNDS.
The contract will be executed by the ARGE IT‑Systemintegration consortium, which includes Rheinmetall Electronics and the defence‑technology firm Blackned. It aims to modernise thousands of vehicles and command posts, improving command‑and‑control capabilities and NATO interoperability. Despite the order, Rheinmetall’s share price has shown limited movement, with analysts pointing to budget uncertainty and a shift toward drones and precision weapons as factors weighing on investor confidence.
The agreement underscores Germany’s push to modernise its armed forces through digital technologies while signalling continued revenue streams for Rheinmetall from long‑term defence programmes.
