Rheinmetall secures maintenance contract for German customs vessels

Rheinmetall has secured a multi-year framework agreement to provide maintenance and technical support for four LNG-powered vessels operated by Germany’s Federal Customs Administration. The contract aims to expand the company’s naval services business by providing lifecycle support beyond the initial construction phase.

The fleet includes one 67-metre vessel and three 55-metre vessels. Three of these ships were previously built at the Peene-Werft shipyard and delivered last year. Rheinmetall will perform scheduled maintenance, repairs, and emergency assistance at various berths, including Lubmin, Neustadt i. H., Wilhelmshaven, and Emden.

Tim Wagner, CEO of Rheinmetall’s Naval Systems Division, stated that the agreement confirms the company’s strategy to link new-build expertise with long-term service offerings. The aluminium-hulled vessels are used to monitor and control cross-border goods traffic within Germany’s territorial waters and exclusive economic zone.
